Fancy berry sauce to impress your significant other:

Go to the farmer's market or your local greengrocer, and pick up a pint or so of raspberries or blackberries.

Get some Haagen-Daz or however you spell it Myan Chocolate -- chocolate with cinnamon! Yum!

Eat some of the berries.

Mash the rest of the berries through a fine mesh strainer so you're left with a nice-looking bunch of juice. Discard all the solids and seeds and stuff left over. I used a chinois for this, but you could probably use any other kind of fine mesh strainer you have laying around.

Add a little bit of water to the juice and put in a small saucepan with a dash of cinnamon, a teensy dash of vanilla, a bunch of sugar (will depend on how sweet the berries are and how sweet you want your sauce). Bring to a simmer and cook down until it gets thick. Taste for sweetness -- you might want to throw in a dash of lemon juice at this point if you think it's not bright enough, or a bit more sugar. Cool in the fridge (I actually like it if the sauce is a little warm). Spoon up over the ice cream -- fancy!
